HMAA Instructor Information

Johnathan Bolton is the founder of HMAA.  He has been training in the martial arts for over 22 years.

Johnathan began his training in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate in 1985 at age of 10 under Marilyn Fierro of the Smithtown Karate Academy in Long Island, New York.  Johnathan competed in martial arts tournaments on a national level for many years and continues to seek out and train with internationally-known instructors from many different martial arts.

Johnathan earned instructor certification in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate from Nick Adler's Centurions Association in the United States and from the Okinawan Isshin-Ryu Karate Kobudo Association (O.I.K.K.A.) under Master Angi Uezu in Okinawa, Japan in 1995. He holds the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt.

Johnathan currently trains in Thai Boxing, Jun Fan/JKD Concepts, Filipino Martial Arts and Combat Submission Wrestling under the instruction of Tim Mousel and in Giron Arnis Escrima/Bahala Na Martial Arts under Tony Somera.  In 2006, Johnathan founded the Houston Stick Fighting Association.

Johnathan is married with two children and practices law with the law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP in Houston, Texas.

Joseph Galleon is responsible for the Filipino Martial Arts curriculum at HMAA.

Manong Joe is an American-born Filipino raised in Pasadena, California.  Manong Joe has been a practitioner of Filipino Arnis since the age of 7 through his father, a “Pinoy” first wave immigrant Filipino to the United States in 1920 from the Island of Leyte.  The Galleon Clan System of Escrima is a Visayan family tribal system consisting of Lakbay Sinawali techniques that also includes, empty hands, take downs, solo and double bastons, espada y daga, pinga as well as the staff.  Manong Joe currently trains in  Bahala Na Martial Arts under Tony Somera.

Manong Joe also holds a Black Belt in Chung Do Kwon with North American Tae Kwon Do based in Rochester, New York.

Manong Joe has a degree in Petroleum Technology and, although officially retired, continues to work at BHP Billiton Petroleum in Houston, Texas.
