Okinawan Isshinryu Karate-Fierro/Adler Method Isshinryu Karate is an Okinawan style of karate (“empty hand”) developed by the late Grand Master Tatsuo Shimabuko. Grand Master Shimabuku studied under the top karate and kobudo (“weapons”) masters in Okinawan at that time. Isshinryu Karate (the "One Heart Way") was officially recognized as a traditional karate style in Okinawa in 1956. Grand Master Shimabuku trained United States servicemen stationed in Okinawa after World War II, including Don Nagle, who then brought Isshinryu Karate back to the United States in the 1950’s and ‘60’s.
Womens’ Self-Defense-Fierro Method Master Marilyn Fierro is one of the pioneers in American martial arts. She began her martial arts training in the 1970’s at a time when very few women were training in martial arts. After over 30 years of training and teaching, she has developed an effective system for Women’s Self-Defense which is being taught in many school systems in New York state.
